Managing Households¶
A household is the top-level organizational unit in FreezerMan. It represents your home (or any group of people who share freezers). All freezers, compartments, and items belong to a household, and all members of a household can view and manage its inventory.
Creating a Household¶
After registering your account, create a household to get started. Give it a name that makes sense for your situation -- for example, "Home" or "Lake House".
When you create a household, you automatically become its owner.
Switching Between Households¶
If you belong to more than one household (for example, your own home and a family member's), you can switch between them from the main navigation. Your current household determines which freezers and items you see.
Roles¶
Every household member has one of two roles:
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control -- manage members, transfer ownership, delete the household, plus everything a member can do |
| Member | Add and edit freezers, compartments, and items |
There is exactly one owner per household. All other users are members.
What Owners Can Do¶
- Invite new members (via QR code or invite code)
- Remove members from the household
- Transfer ownership to another member
- Delete the household entirely
- Everything a member can do
What Members Can Do¶
- Add, edit, and archive freezers, compartments, and items
- View all household data
- View other members
Transferring Ownership¶
If you're the owner and want to hand control to someone else, you can transfer ownership to any current member. Once transferred:
- The other member becomes the new owner
- You become a regular member
- This action takes effect immediately
Note: Ownership transfer cannot be undone by the previous owner. The new owner would need to transfer it back.
Removing Members¶
Only the owner can remove members from a household. Removing a member revokes their access to all household data immediately. Items they previously added remain in the inventory -- they are not deleted.
Deleting a Household¶
Only the owner can delete a household.
Warning: Deleting a household permanently removes all of its data -- every freezer, compartment, item, and change history record. This action cannot be undone. Make sure you truly want to delete everything before confirming.
All members lose access immediately when a household is deleted.
